So, having set my heart on a new little knife (..maybe the Jess Horn, still not sure) and having received a chrome Space Pen from the older sprog to replace a crumbling brass one (his near future looks bright for that inspired bit of buying:)), I thought I might as well go for a total pocket edc renovation and look for a new AAA flashie.

Historically, I have had the Klarus MiX-6 Ti as a permanent pocket feature. So, the bar is set high for a replacement.

I have been looking at the Surefire Titan, the Lumintop TOOL and a Peak Eiger ... there are others, I know, but I am not good at decoding the enthusiasm on the relevant sites ... also, people seem very cautious in their remarks about Surefires (like they might get accused of flag-burning if they appear rude )

Anyone carrying anything good at the moment, or have their eye on a AAA?

Never been a fan of AAA lights. Battery capacity is very low when compared to an AA light.

I have to agree, I EDC a few AA lights and am a big fan of the Eagletac and Zebra light offerings. Saying that the SF Titan looks pretty good :D

It is for a permanent home, jeans, front pocket, left. The AA is too large. We don't want a big bulge there do we?

AAs are for jacket pocket or bag. It's fundamental dress code, like red sauce for pasties, brown sauce for pies.

I can't just stick a 10440 in any old AAA torch ... that right?

Also ... are eneloops still the go to choice for a rechargeable, or have they been surpassed. Been a few years since I stocked up and the kids lose them, so I need a handful more.

The driver and LED need to be able to handle the higher voltage, so generally, no.

I did a search on best rechargeable batteries and Energiser came out on top. I use the Extreme AA for most things having lost most of my Eneloops.

IKEA's LADDA batteries are on atleast on par with the Eneloops.
The 2450mAh AA, and 900mAh AAA have the same specs as the Eneloop Pros and are being made in the same plant Sanyo Eneloops were made. The Japanese plant was sold to FDK when Panasonic bought Sanyo.

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/lighting/batteries-chargers/

The less expensive AA and AAAs on that page are equivalent to Eneloop Lites. Less energy but last more recharge cycles.

I picked up the Surefire ... which is remarkable (if a little large) ... and a golden Olight which is terrific but of the fact that it turns on to full power mode rather than the more sensible mid.

That Maratac looks good. I have a copper one .. which I think is the same model .. looks like it. I also have a LuminTop on the way, and am looking forward to swapping out the head on the Maratac.
